Mother, Mountain

This is my very first painting I made in Colombia. I wanted to honor the mountain I’m currently living right now in the Andes - Cundinamarca, Colombia. the mountain is strong, not afraid to bite you when you wrong it, the energy of this place shimmers the night as the mountains are sleeping giants that house all kinds of animals, she is loud and the city lights can’t touch her , so the night sky is clear and it touches us with its shimmering colors of the stars and planets, as the clouds come and go, the fog at the bottom of the mountain is what isolates us and it’s the mountains embrace us and gives us shelter in these difficult time of Colombian history. She is wild, unforgiving she is the jungle of life and death.

acrylic on canvas 18x24 in.

This is my latest work done in the mountains of cundinamarca Colombia! The relationship the people have with he mountains is incredibly nourishing from both parties and as the process of both creation and destructions, the mountain gives us water. And plants, fruits and an ample place where the cows can eat and grow, our milk at the farm comes from them and in our relationship with the mountain we honor it by respecting its temperament, between the clouds, we are land astronauts, every morning ready for the challenge of a walk in the jungle, the scorpions and tarantulas that come to have coffee with us in the terrace. Despite the conflict in the country we’re isolated and happy to be part of this community.
