Leonora Carrington

heavily influenced by other artist, she was part of the surrealist movement in Paris. she was heavily inspired by Dali even though he was a distinct acquaintance. the female surrealist were represented in animal figures. she was friends with, Remedios Varo and she spoke to Frida a couple of times; it was so interesting to listen to herself and other female artist as pillars of learning, not the competitiveness of the men in the arts.. the surrealist were anarchist and poets. i loved the way she evokes that throughout the interview, she speaks of other painters, of poets and book she has read. i knew i love her art work because i saw it when i went to Mexico city a couple of years ago. she captured me, i had never seen something like it in my life. she has the finesses of the old masters, the shock factor of surrealism and the poetry of a feminist who was brought up by conservatives society. her travels to México made her even a better artist, she was consumed by the love and attention of Marx , at the moment she was alas free she dedicated her practice to the deities that would talk to her and the stories of the mystic México. not too long ago i did a DNA test and it turns out i have root in México as i have them in Colombia as well. that connection was very beautiful because, Mexico's culture is rich and very much alive. in Colombia the culture is dead. the culture of Colombia has is north American influenced and heavily European. i feel like when i travel anything is possible, my heart is full and within my mind is happy and ready to create. her connection to the super natural and reality is what makes her art sensational. and i think that's so important.
